Société des Transports Intercommunaux de Bruxelles / Maatschappij voor het Intercommunaal Vervoer te Brussels/

La Dyle / ACEC #2

7 june 2009 - Bruxelles (BE) – depot/zajezdnia Woluwe. This smart, double-ended works car has been newly converted from a 5000-series bogie car. Note the two pantographs, one for each direction of travel - when in passenger service, these cars only had one.

19 september 2010 - Bruxelles/Brussel (BE) – depot/zajezdnia Woluwe. The very smart breakdown tram which is kept at Woluwe. At first glance, this looks like a PCC, but it isn’t – this is ex-5021, one of the Standard cars given new bodies in the 1960s.

La Dyle / ACEC #5001

19 september 2010 - Bruxelles/Brussel (BE) - Avenue de Tervuren. UITP 125th Anniversary celebrations. This Standard car is fitted with a pantograph, so it can go anywhere in the city and isn't just restricted to the Tervuren ine. Originally, it would have had a trolley pole. Line 45 has now disappeared.

1 may 2014 - Bruxelles/Brussel - Rue Theodore Verhaegen: A last look at museum car #5008, which was built specifically for Line 81, shown here on the occasion of its centenary cemebrations. At this point, there is a long and busy street leading up from Gare du Midi to Barriere.

1 may 2014 - Bruxelles/Brussel - Rue du Bailli: More pictures from the 2014 celebration of Line 81 of the Brussels tramway. These particular cars were actually bought specifically to work this line and did so from 1935 until they were replaced by PCC cars in 1971. They were very powerful and comfortable for the time.

La Dyle / ACEC #5016

19 september 2010 - Bruxelles/Brussel (BE) - Avenue de Tervuren. UITP 125th Anniversary celebrations. One of the Bruxelles Standard bogie cars, which were once numerous. The destination screen shows that Line 44 once ran all the way from Tervuren to the city centre.

La Dyle / ACEC #5018

25 march 2012 - Brussel/Bruxelles (BE) – Tervueren Station. A ‘pretend PCC’ built from the chassis of an older, Standard tram with a new PCC-style body in 1950. Although this tram looks very similar to the PCCs that followed, it is entirely different underneath and has normal hand controls.

La Dyle / ACEC #5025

25 may 2003 - Bruxelles, Belgium – depot and museum Woluwe. STIB has a very nice museum (currently closed for building work) and operates several historic trams, including this 1935 city car. Quite basic construction, rather like a box on wheels, but these lasted a long time in regular service.

2010 - Bruxelles/Brussel (BE) - Montgomery, Avenue de Broqueville. UITP 125th Anniversary celebrations. I hope no Health and Safety officer saw this! In UK, this would never be allowed.
