Tatra RT6N1 #85
29 september 2006 - Liberec, Czech Republic – depot/zajezdnia Tatranska. A very interesting tram. This was the second RT6 prototype and ran first in Praha and then in Liberec. Between 1998 and 2003 it was rebuilt by CKD Tatra from Type RT6S to RT6N1, being the basis for the Poznan design. Like the Poznan Tatras, it had many early problems and spent much time out of service. The first prototype (which ran here as Liberec 84) went to Krakow for trials but was returned to CKD in 1999 and scrapped. I don’t know what happened to 85 after it left Liberec – it may still exist somewhere with a different identity.

6 august 2010 - Liberec, zajezdnia tramwajowa. Jak widać - Modertrans jej jeszcze nie kupił. ;-) No i w zasadzie nie ma na to szans. Swoją drogą - szkoda, że nie dostała homologacji. Jej wnętrze jest jeszcze lepsze, niż w naszych poznańskich Tatrach. Z podziękowaniami dla Pana Krebsa, który serdecznie przyjął nas i oprowadził po zajezdni. Dodatkowe podziękowania dla M. za załatwienie wstępu. :)

21 march 2013 - Liberec - DPML Tramway Depot: On my most recent visit in 2013 I was amazed to find the Tatra prototype tram #85 still stored in the depot and looking very smart. This is one of two prototype trams sent here from Prague in the 1990s after Prague decided it had no further use for them. Liberec ran them for only a very short time and one was scrapped - this one was stored in the depot. I rather thought it would have gone to Poznan in Poland some years ago, as it is the prototype of their small (troublesome) class of these Tatras and, at the very least, would be a useful source of spare parts. Anyway, it seems that it is still here, taking up valuable depot space, over thirty years after it was built!
