Well, probably not anymore. But back in those days road surfaces were a lot worse and many buses had a spare wheel either on the back or in the cargo compartment. Later models have it under the front, I think, or they have none at all. When this was new it was used as a school bus on a small island, and they needed to be somewhat self-served, and a spare wheel isn`t a bad idea then.
