I think the confusion over company listings isn't just a London problem, but UK-wide one... The structure of the UK transport industry doesn't fit perfectly into the more continental categories used here on phototrans.eu. I've come across similar problems: The full, legally correct name of Stagecoach Manchester is 'Greater Manchester Buses South Ltd.', Stagecoach North East is either 'Busways Travel Services Ltd.' or 'Cleveland Transit Ltd.', all with no mention of Stagecoach - but how will anyone looking for Stagecoach in the operator listing find them? And don't get me started on registrered offices: Quite a few Stagecoach UK bus companies are based in Stockport, where nobody will ever look for them... Like you, I prefer to use the legally correct entries, but it won't work well without some system of annotation (tags? extended company details?).
Definitely it's sometimes very confusing (I know something 'bout it as I added quite a few UK based operators). Well, if it was up to me I would add the operators as clearly as possible - so if Liverpool's branch of Arriva operates also all its services in Wales - lets add it so (though it will look very weird to see an Optare from Cardiff attached to Liverpool operator). As well if First London owes all London trams - lets put them to this particular operator (I know this might be confusing for some people, and some of them would willingly add a new "Tramlink" operator to make things clear (for them).
Well the point is - if First London was a Polish-based company, everybody will for sure add all its vehicles (buses and trams) into one place, so why British soil should make some difference?
BTW. Sorry for lack of English description under this pic., but I clearly see you don't need it.
I agree - everything should be sorted under the proper operator. In Britain (for buses at least) that happens to be whoever is on the legal lettering on the nearside of the bus - so for the East London Group it would be either 'East London Bus & Coach Company Ltd.' or 'South East London & Kent Bus Company Ltd.', depending on who runs the vehicle. It definitely shouldn't be the bank who owns them and not even the Group of which they're part. After all, we don't just stick all Arriva buses in all of Europa under one single operator listing. Of course it can be a bit of a pain in the a*** to research the correct data for a bus, but if there's one country in the world with good (and free) online sources of such data it's Britain.
Perhaps a solution would be to use the full, correct operator name and put the group in brackets - something like 'Bluebird Buses Ltd. [Stagecoach]'. And then there should be a consensus on what to put as the address and city. Should it be registered offices, which can happen to be at the other end of the country from the operations, or should it be the address of the local operating centre? Plenty of questions...
No need for English descriptions - this is a Polish website, after all, and with the little Polish I understand and some help from Google Translate I'll be sure to figure things out...
I'd be rather cautious about allocating buses to the smallest business unit possible - in the UK Groups shuffle buses around like cards. I'd rather we stuck to regional business units (e.g. Arriva Shires & Essex, etc.) - probably least confusing. As for Croydon Tramlink - tough to say who the exact operator is, but Tramlink is a very clear-cut case - and if it's intact on phototrans.eu, let's not change that.
..yap - otherwise, why not splitting London's Arriva buses into Arriva London North and Arriva London South (as it appears on the vehicles)? Besides, I believe that no one can say how many times any particular bus had been transfered within ELBG.
..as for the Croydon, London or Whatever Tramlink ... everything would be much more simple if they hadn't changed the livery: http://www.photo-transport.co.uk/trams/uk/uk-croydon-2550.JPG
