Well, first series with RABA engine was presented in 1983, if my memory serves me well. Series with MAN engine was manufactured since 1988. The last IK-161 was manufactured in 1996 and it is in service today also in GSP with garage number 1202. But mass production was ended in 1994 with presentation of the new models.
For drivers - yes! But for passengers I wouldn't say that. Those Ikarbus series were generally the best, because even in very hard times, during the 90's, when GSP has rejuvenated fleet, through few years could be seen very poor maintenance, which was the result of imposed sanctions on Yugoslavia. Drivers love it because they know that none of today's Mercedes or Volvo buses wouldn't suffer that hard times which these Ikar(b)uses had. Today, when these vehicles do reserve, much less engine problems they have, than the new low-floor Ikarbus IK-112N or IK-218N. I hope that I wasn't boring.
last ik161 manufactured is 412 in zemun.
