15 june 2009 - Marcq-en-Barœul (FR) – Brossolette. The metre-gauge Lille tramway (universally known as “Le Mongy” after the original engineer) was opened in 1909 along a new road, the Grand Boulevard, stretching from central Lille to the nearby towns of Roubaix and Tourcoing. Although a short branch line from near this point closed down in 1972, the system has survived for 100 years, now with an underground section beneath the city centre.
