5 march 2010 - Crawley, London Road / Crawley Avenue. Dave Vigar's local area is inhabited by this silly example for how rubbish Bus Rapid Transit can be. On the 10km-long route 10 (Gatwick Airport - Bewbush via Crawley) there is a total of 200m of guided bus lanes (two sections ca. 100m each) - which buses don't generally tend to use. Also, one of the streets leading to Bewbush has been designated as bus only (read: the bus was artificially made faster), and one of the roundabouts on the northern by-pass was modified like so. The effect of this is that buses have to stand twice at a red light (before the roundabout and here), unlike other vehicles, which only need to stop once. All works were financed by the local council.
