30 april 2002 - Poprad (SK) - The Tatra region of Slovakia, just across the mountain border with Poland, has some very interesting light railways – virtually tramways, in fact. So, at the risk of upsetting our TWB purists, I have posted some pictures here, even though it could be argued they might belong equally well in the rail part of the database - sorry if I offend anyone! First, a photo of some of the (then) recently withdrawn trams of the Tatra Light Railways, a metre gauge system from the town of Poprad into the mountains. Built by CKD Tatra, these double-articulated vehicles looked virtually identical to the company’s T3 or T4 trams. They were replaced with new, low-floor stock in 2001/2.
