1992 - Quito, Ecuador. While searching for literature for my essay about the organisational problems in the transport sector of developing countries I came upon this brochure with a photo in it, that made me fall off my chair. I've heard of ikarus-buses in Cuba, but in Ecuador? Sadly, the brochure (from 1992) says, that a lack of spare parts and an ineffective management of the company caused these buses to dilapidate quickly and they were soon scrapped. These are kitted out with strong Cummins engines to cope with the hilly nature of the area as well as rather thin air - Quito lies around 2800 metres above sea level.
