Bedford OB #586

3 april 2019 - Manchester, Bus Museum

Bedford OB / Duple Vista #JDV 754

3 august 2018 - Cirencester, Gloucestershire - South Cerney: The last Bedford OB for today is this one, ex-Lewis Coaches of Henstridge, Somerset and preserved since 1972. Like all the examples I have shown today, it has a Duple Vista body, this one built in 1949. There is very little discernible difference between this one and later OBs.

3 august 2018 - Cirencester, Gloucestershire - South Cerney: LDF 833, shown here, is reputed to have been the very last Bedford OB built in 1952. It was new to Bowles Coaches here in Gloucestershire and was later turned into a 1:24 scale model.

Bedford OB / Duple Vista #GDL 667

3 august 2018 - Cirencester, Gloucestershire - South Cerney: A local Bedford OB operated by Alexcars of Cirencester to full passenger-carrying licence standards is this example new to Paul`s Tours of the Isle of Wight in 1950. Like most Bedford OBs of this period, it has Duple Vista bodywork.

Bedford OB / Duple Vista #LTA 750

3 august 2018 - Cirencester, Gloucestershire - South Cerney: Seen at a big vehicle rally last weekend was this little group of Bedford OB coaches, all with Duple Vista bodywork. This was a common vehicle with coach and bus operators in the late 1940s and 1950s, carrying around thirty people in comfort. Most were driven by a 3,200cc petrol engine. The coach nearest the camera was owned by Royal Blue, a national company specialising in express coach links from cities and towns in the south and west of England. Because of their handy size, OBs were a popular choice for second owners and then preservationists.

Bedford OB #EAJ 679

2 may 2010 - Redhill, UK - Brighton Road: Another Bedford OB coach, only slightly different from the one shown in my last photograph, this time with a Plaxton body. I have no idea of its history, except that it is named `Charlie`. These vehicles have always been a popular choice for preservationists, as many still have their original petrol engine and often have beautiful Art Deco interiors - just small enough for one person to restore, garage and repair.

Bedford OB #LDF 833

2 may 2010 - Redhill, UK - Princess Way: The Bedford OB was once a common sight, particularly with the Duple Vista body, as shown here. These little coaches were widespread in the 1940 and 1950s, both as buses in rural areas and for coach excursions, which were extremely popular before private car ownership became more widespread. I don`t know the history of this particular one, except that it was new to Bowles Coaches and was immortalised as a 1:24 scale model

1946 - Warszawa. To jedne z pierwszych powojennych autobusów w PKS. Pewnie w jednym z nich wykonano nadwozia. Autobusy produkowała na bazie samochodów GMC też EKD (obecnie WKD), w przedwojennych warsztatach Skody przy Al. Jerozolimskich (lokalizacja nieznana). Wozy na własne potrzeby produkowała też Bialska Kolej Elektryczna na podwoziu samochodów International.

Bedford OB / Duple #CCB 861

1 may 2011 - Redhill, Surrey (GB) – Brighton Road. The Mulleys Motorways company of Ixworth, Suffolk, was renowned for running very interesting old buses which lasted long enough to be bought by enthusiasts when the business finally closed down. This Bedford OB is now owned by a local coach company who keeps it for ‘heritage’ service.

Bedford WTB / Plaxton #EAJ 679

1 may 2011 - Redhill, Surrey (GB) – Brighton Road. A Bedford OB coach of the late 1940s. These little coaches were common in the years after WW2 and there are quite a few in preservation, as they are fairly easy to manage and store. This one has a Plaxton body, rather than the more common Duple version.

3 may 2009 - Redhill (UK) – Brighton Road - HCVS Rally. When this Bedford WTB was built in 1948, it was still largely a wartime design – the OB type came a little later. The body of this one was built by Plaxton, who later became giants of the coach-building world. Only two Plaxton-bodied Bedford OBs survive today.

Bedford OB / Duple #LDF 833

3 may 2009 - Redhill (UK) – Brighton Road - HCVS Rally. Hundreds of these very popular small coaches were built just after WW2. Many were sold on to become village buses throughout Britain and lasted in service well into old age. The classic OB has Duple bodywork, as seen here.
