Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 MMC 10.8m #2434

4 may 2022 - Queens Wharf, A&P Docks, Falmouth. Local operator OTS hold the contract to move passengers from cruise ships to the town centre, but sometimes even more buses are required and some work is subcontracted to Go Cornwall Bus. As seen here, Go Cornwall Bus provided two buses for this particular ship.

4 may 2022 - A&P Dockyard, Falmouth Operating cruise ship shuttle services always gives a fascinating insight in to the historical and industrial dockyard.

Mercedes-Benz 516 CDI / Mellor Strata LF #LN20 PVO

1 july 2024 - Durgan Cross, nr. Mawnan Smith. Seen here while posing for publicity photos ahead of a new bus network launch for Cornwall. At this point the vehicle was new, and had not been used in service; it was delivered only one day previously.

Dennis Dart SLF / Plaxton Pointer 2 #44

23 april 2018 - A&P Docks, Falmouth A rare opportunity to drive through the industrial depths of Falmouth Docks arose today whilst undertaking Cruise Ship shuttle work from Queens Wharf, as opposed to the usual County Wharf.

Otokar Navigo T #GH16 GJK

1 may 2017 - Maritime Car Park, Falmouth. Seen here waiting for a Private Hire group is this rare (in the UK) Otokar Navigo T. It stands alongside a colourful mural - the second such decorated wall in the town.

Optare Solo M850SL #53803

22 march 2017 - Swanpool Road, Falmouth.

Otokar Navigo T #GH16 GJK

1 may 2017 - Cliff Road, Falmouth. Seen preparing for a late night private hire is this rare coach - a newcomer to the UK market but ideal for accessing difficult locations, and many places in Cornwall are difficult to access! In the background you can see Pendennis Castle illuminated on it`s headland.

Mercedes-Benz 811 D / Plaxton Beaver #L357 VCV

26 december 2014 - The Moor, Falmouth. The day after Christmas Day is known as `Boxing Day` in the UK. It is a holiday where public transport traditionally does not operate, although that is slowly changing as more businesses open on this day. However, in smaller towns like Falmouth, no buses or trains run on Boxing Day so I operated a free bus service for local people to use with my own bus - seen here being driven by a friend.

2 november 2014 - Imperial Square, Cheltenham.

Mercedes-Benz 311 CDI #841 ERL

1 november 2014 - Lighthouse Pier, Penzance.

Mercedes-Benz 516 BlueTEC #GX64 FNF

29 october 2014 - Lamanva, nr. Falmouth. Brand new buses are quite rare in Cornwall, which is a relatively underprivileged part of the UK. So, despite its size, this bus is a `big deal` for a small local bus company like this.

Volvo B10M / Plaxton Panther #K33 OTS

1 june 2014 - OTS Depot, Little Lamanva, near Falmouth. This steadily expanding business recently won educational contracts in the Falmouth area and has increased the number of full-size coaches from 1 to 4, and will soon rise again to 5. Here the 3 additions sit alongside the existing member of the fleet, ready for the start of the new contracts the following day.

Volvo Olympian / Alexander RH #34192

8 june 2014 - A39 Penryn By-pass, Penryn. Seen here running from Falmouth depot to Camborne depot, presumably for routine maintenance, which is the only reason I can think of why one of these would be using this road on a Sunday!

Optare Solo M990 #KX04 HPZ

1 june 2014 - OTS Depot, Lamanva, nr. Falmouth. The white buses in this fleet usually operate regular contract work, which varies greatly in terms of the size of vehicle required, as demonstrated by the line-up here.

Mercedes-Benz 413 CDI / Ferqui Soroco #239 TRL

1 june 2014 - OTS Depot, Lamanva, nr. Falmouth. The two silver vehicles in this small fleet are used for the most prestigious private hires and contract work. Together, they look very professional and set a very good image of the company.

AEC Routemaster RML #RML2290

10 march 2014 - OTS Depot, Lamanva. An early taste of summer sees the bright red paint of this British legend shine like new, though now far from the urban sprawl of London and living in much more rural parts. A much newer member of the fleet provides company.

Jonckheere JHV 126-380 #BJ13 TXU

9 march 2014 - Gyllyngvase Coach Park, Falmouth. This town is popular with tourists and the seafront area is home to a number of large hotels, many of which do not offer coach parking due to lack of space. Therefore coaches tend to rest overnight in the coach park such as this example, sat beside a much older local school bus. Quite a big difference between these two!

Mercedes-Benz 413 CDI / Kusters MidCity #873 VRL

6 march 2014 - Grovehill Crescent, Falmouth. In order to financially support this short and frequent service around the town centre, the regular bus is heavily adorned with advertisements for local tourist attractions, breweries and other businesses.

Mercedes-Benz 413 CDI / Kusters MidCity #873 VRL

6 march 2014 - Quarry Hill, Falmouth. This vehicle is dedicated to operating a 20 minute frequency shuttle service around the town centre. The route has now been extended once every 2 hours to serve the outer parts of town left without a service following the sudden withdrawal of the Cornwall Ferries (t/a FalRiver Buses) 329 and it is seen here arriving at the start point for one of the extended journeys.

Mercedes-Benz 814 D / Plaxton Beaver 2 #813 HAF

7 march 2014 - Trescobeas Rd., Falmouth. A bright day signals spring on the way! This bus is permanently allocated to a private contract operating a 30 minute frequency between Woodlane Campus and Falmouth Business Park for Falmouth University graphics students.

Volvo Olympian / Alexander RH #31461

27 february 2014 - Treliever Road, Mabe Burnthouse, Penryn. One of a number of Olympians due for withdrawal this year is this former Scottish example. It`s original purchaser chose an unusual specification for this bus: the great Volvo TD102KF engine, but coupled to a 3sp. auto gearbox as opposed to the usual ZF.

Volvo Olympian / Northern Counties Palatine II #34177

18 february 2014 - Kernick Road, Penryn. The Kernick area of Penryn is industrial and also houses growing out-of-town retail developments, all of which can be seen from my home village of Mabe Burnthouse, which overlooks the activity from its proud position on the hillside.

Volvo Olympian / Northern Counties Palatine II #34177

18 february 2014 - Antron Hill, Mabe Burnthouse. Seen in my home village where I was raised and spent my childhood is this exile from Bristol, now living out it`s twilight years in Cornwall. This has long been the tradition: Cornwall is the last place a bus will serve before the scrap man gets hold of it. This is not always true of course, but I suspect in this case it will be.

Dennis Trident 2 / Plaxton President #32802

11 january 2014 - Tremough Campus, Penryn. One of the first Dennis Tridents to join this fleet from London was this example. Initially working in the larger city of Plymouth on Park and Ride duties, before being branded for other work there. Since then it has gained standard fleet livery and joined other London exiles further West.

Dennis Trident 2 / Plaxton President #32875

11 january 2014 - A394, nr. Mabe Burnthouse, Penryn.

Bedford SBG #UUO 198

11 january 2014 - A394 nr. Mabe Burnthouse, Penryn. A member of the classic King Harry fleet heads out to perform a wedding private hire. This vehicle was new in 1956 to an independent operator in the neighbouring county of Devon, and despite the friendly rivalry between the two areas, it is good to see the same bus is still "local", some 58 years later!

Iveco TurboDaily 59-12 / Cunliffe #P695 JOM

20 december 2013 - Kersey Road, Flushing, nr. Falmouth. This operator has set about filling niches in the Falmouth and Truro area following council funding cuts and withdrawal of services provided by larger operators. Seen here loading in this small fishing village is this vehicle, formerly a Tesco Free Bus operated by another local firm now operating an experimental two-days-a-week service partly replacing the withdrawn 400 service.

ADL Dart SLF / ADL Pointer #42559

20 december 2013 - Kersey Road, Flushing. Service 69 has been reinstated following the withdrawal of service 400 - like stepping back in time 10 years or so! The buses now though are much more accessible, like the example seen here in this typically Cornish fishing village.

20 december 2013 - Ponsharden, Falmouth. Quite possibly one of the most picturesque bus depots in the UK is home to this vehicle, which is laid up over the winter period.

ADL Dart SLF / ADL Pointer #42560

19 november 2013 - Falmouth, A39 Falmouth Road.

ADL Dart SLF / ADL Pointer #42944

19 november 2013 - Falmouth, Dracaena Avenue.

Dennis Dart SLF / Plaxton Pointer 2 #S723KNV

19 november 2013 - Falmouth, Trelawney Road.

Dennis Dart SLF / Plaxton Pointer 2 #S723KNV

19 november 2013 - Falmouth, Castle Drive. Falmouth is the third deepest natural harbour in the world, and that can be seen by the close proximity of the docks to the town, all of which can be seen behind the vehicle pictured here.

Volvo Olympian / Northern Counties Palatine II #34138

16 november 2013 - A394, Longdowns, Nr. Falmouth. A former Bristol vehicle now working in rural Cornwall sees me realise a long-standing goal: a picture of a bus with a herd of Alpacas also in shot. So, instead of travelling to South America to achieve this goal I saved my money and walked up the hill from my family home to make this photo! ;)

Olympian #34199

16 november 2013 - Tubbon Hill, Pelean Cross, Nr. Stithians. This Volvo Olympian fitted with Alexander Royale body is another London exile working in rural Cornwall, seen here on what is a "wide" section of road on this route!

Leyland Olympian / Northern Counties Palatine #K660UNH

15 november 2013 - Falmouth, Ponsharden Park & Ride. This vehicle works through the summer transferring passengers from Truro City Centre to the nearby village of Malpas for the summer only ferry service. Now, as we are in Autumn the vehicle is hibernating, and acts as a spare for any of this operators growing number of services in the area.

Dennis Dart SLF / Plaxton Pointer 2 #42719

28 october 2013 - Falmouth, Budock Water, Penjerrick Hill. To demonstrate some of the challenging roads around this rural part of the UK is this recent transfer to the operator. This route is very familiar to me, and I have driven it many times - a very enjoyable experience it is too!

Optare Solo M880 #52402

26 october 2013 - Falmouth, Cliff Road. Originally bought by local independent operator 'Truronian' for routes in the Camborne and Redruth area under the Trevithick Link brand, which explains the select registration "T20TVL" is this bus, now one of just a few Truronian vehicles left in the area having been scattered around the country by FirstGroup.

Dennis Dart SLF / Plaxton Pointer 2 #S723KNV

26 october 2013 - Falmouth, Ponsharden, Falmouth Road A39. This operator is rapidly expanding in the area, having been operating ferries in the area for many years. They have taken advantage of recent changes by the larger operators to create a niche for themselves, and in so doing have needed to acquire this vehicle for new routes.

Olympian #34198

21 september 2013 - Penryn, junction of Quarry Hill/Falmouth Road. This vehicle, fitted with Alexander Royale type bodywork, is working a short journey on the trunk route which operates between the town of Falmouth and city of Truro, but only so far as the ASDA superstore in Penryn. Seen here just before the climb through Penryn town centre, with the Penryn river at low tide in the background.

ADL Dart SLF / ADL Pointer #42941

21 september 2013 - Penryn, Broad Street. This is one of the last of this chassis and body combination built before Alexander Dennis ceased production in favour of the Enviro200 model. Originally purchased for the 41 service, though as an unbranded vehicle (unlike others from the batch, which carry branding for the 41 service) it often is used on other routes. This occurs especially on Saturdays, when the 41 does not operate as frequently as on weekdays.

TransBus President #PJ02 PZP

2 june 2013 - Falmouth, Dunstanville Terrace. This vehicle has been driven by the author in both Oxford and Falmouth with 2 different owners. As Falmouth is the town in which I was born and raised, I thought it appropriate to take this photograph where the bus is seen on summer-only Park & Ride duties with the picturesque nature of the area reflected by the Penryn River in the background. Interestingly, when I drove this vehicle in Oxford it also worked mostly on Park & Ride work - route 700.
