Tatra KT4YU-M #322

21 august 2007 - Belgrade, Pristanište. More ugly trams hiding in the bushes :D And that would be it from Belgrade - our train to Bar via Podgorica was leaving in less than an hour.

Tatra KT4YU #216

21 august 2007 - Belgrad, Pristanište. Train 216+299 departs the lovely loop next to the river harbour and starts making its way to Ustanicka. The modernisation of these carriages encompassed the installation of a thyristor, BUSE displays (which show the same thing on the inside as on the outside) and the sprucing up of the interior. It doesn't look too good, but it's nothing like the modernisation programme of Tatra T3's by Depo Darnitsa in Kiev. :P

Tatra KT4YU #304

21 august 2007 - Belgrade, ul. Pariška. We sadly didn't have enough time to look around this place more thoroughly, so the photo doesn't really show the beauty of this place. Heading uphill, the Tatra first stops for a few minutes at the lovely Pristaniste loop, then makes a tight 180 degree turn and drags itself up the incline in the background on badly worn-out tracks. I've just GOT to come back here some time.

MAN SG313 #868

21 august 2007 - Belgrad, ul. Kneza Miloša. Looks a bit like a New York photo :) My warmest regards to the two officers of the Serbian police, who let us get onto the traffic island to take these pics :)

21 august 2007 - Belgrade, ul. Kralja Milana. After downing a "Zlaty Jelen" beer it's time to continue. An ex-Athens ZIU on a very short version of route 22: Studentski trg - Trg Slavija is just passing the Serbian National Theatre. Going in one of those back to Studentski trg I noticed that the Serbs haven't yet sadly grown up enough to have proper soft seats on buses.

Tatra KT4YU #250

21 august 2007 - Belgrade, Trg Slavija. On this roundabout - just like under the Arc de Triomphe in Paris - there is only one traffic rule - "liberte". Only the trams heed the painted signs - but that's only because they have no other choice :P

Белкоммунмаш 33304 #173

21 august 2007 - Belgrad, Trg Slavija. And this is the linguistic hit of our trip: a trolleybus with an ad for "Moja Kravica" milk :P

Белкоммунмаш 32104С #184

21 august 2007 - Belgrade, Trg Slavija. Due to embargos and so on, GSP Beograd had to resort to Byelorussian technology. Ah well - as a Serbian guy that started talking to us randomly told us - "The mighty Americans can't find Bin Laden in Afghanistan, and they have been searching for him for 6 years already, but they expect us to find not one but two generals before they and the Europeans even start talking to us about giving us a penny".

Tatra KT4YU #279

21 august 2007 - Belgrade, ul. Nemanjina. A dead-ugly KT4 (where the hell did they get those headlights from?) has just climbed a steep street and will shortly arrive at the awesome Trg Slavija roundabout. In the backround a mini-panorama of New Belgrade and the remains of a building bombed out by NATO.

Tatra KT4YU #304

21 august 2007 - Belgrade, ul. Tadeusa Koscuska. A KT4 is climbing the hill from Cara Dusana street along the walls of the ancient Kalemegdan fortress where the Sava meets the Danube.

Tatra KT4YU #375

21 august 2007 - Belgrade, ul. Tadeusa Koscuska. What goes up must come down - a KT4 has just climbed the Kalemegdan hill and will descend from it in a moment.

29 august 2007 - Subotica, Trg Oktobarske Revolucije.

Neoplan N4014NF #UE 976-95

5 september 2007 - Brodarevo, one step to Montenegro border. Ex Berlin buses are everywhere, but I think this is not ex-BVG (ex8052).

Ikarbus IK103 #016

20 august 2007 - Belgrade, Savski trg. There were track renewals going on on the other side of the Sava and - what's interesting - there was also a new tram line being built along Treci Bulevar. Hence, a frequent bus replacement service was in operation between the main station and "Blok 45", with a lot of companies "chipping in". I could not unfortunately decipher the origins of this bus though.

Tatra KT4YU #278

20 august 2007 - Belgrade, ul. Karađorđeva. Almost like Lodz - same houses, same track gauge - only the tram is a little different. And the sign on the wall is in a slightly different alphabet :D

Ikarbus IK201 #1212

20 august 2007 - Belgrade, Zeleni Venac. Terminus of many bus routes towards New Belgrade - i.e. a huge Zemun display with a few MAZ in between :P

Tatra KT4YU #258

20 august 2007 - Belgrade, ul. Nemanjina. In the background the main train station and some trees on the banks of the river Sava.

Белкоммунмаш 33304 #174

20 august 2007 - Belgrade, ul. Kneza Miloša. Another one fished out of the crowd :)

Tatra KT4YU #222

20 august 2007 - Belgrade, ul. Nemanjina. Even though the tracks are in mint condition and the next stop is a few hundred metres away, the tram still can't win this one - it has to slow down before the junction with ul. Resavska.

Mercedes-Benz 515 CDI #P1104

20 august 2007 - Belgrade, ul. Nemanjina. That, dear ladies and gentlemen, is how to civilise paratransit. In Belgrade there are a couple of express lines served by these sorts of minibuses. Tickets cost around 50-something dinars (a single tram or bus ticket is 19 dinars), and in exchange you get a driver in uniform, high-back seats and A/C. Something between a taxi and normal public transport. And that's the way forward.

Tatra KT4YU #253

20 august 2007 - Belgrade, ul. Nemanjina. Just a little portrait of a nice "Stagecoach in London"-coloured KT4 on a shortened route 9 working between Banjica and Gosp. Mechana.

Tatra KT4YU #319

20 august 2007 - Belgrade, ul. Resavska. I extend my warmest greetings to the lovely lady in the hat behind the controls of this tram. This lady greeted us earlier in Knezevac with a loud bell ring, and by covering her face with her hat and a threatening wave of her finger :)

ЗиУ-682В0А #41

20 august 2007 - Belgrade, ul. Kralja Milana. One of the main trolley routes and a great place for a photo session. This one, judging by the windows, looks like an endemic ZIU.

Tatra KT4YU #319

20 august 2007 - Belgrade, Oslobodilaca Rakovice. There we go - the first tram photo :) Such KT's in different stages of destruction or modernisation were at the time the only trams in service in the Serbian capital. All ex-Basel GT6 and other weird inventions with pig faces on them were resting peacefully in the Novi Beograd depot, cut-off from the rest of the network due to track renewals.
