Near the 4-axled "Soapbox" tram #904 stands a pre-war, also 4-axled wagon #348 (probably St. Louis, and probably also still in occasional service). In the background tram powerhouse's old AEG generator can be seen.

19 july 2010 - Lisbon, Carris Museum. One of 10 4-axled "Saopboxes" trams built by C.C.F.L. Santo Amaro shops in the end of 1940s. It seems that it's still in occasional operation. It's bogies have a very interesting construction, very rare in this type of rail vehicles. This tram was withdrawned from service in the end of 1980s / in the beginning of 1990s.

28 july 2010 - Lisbon. An interesting thing - the last "Soapbox" tram (trailer) still in public service - unfortunately, only as a little resting station situated in the middle of the parking, in the middle of the Belém tram loop (look at the map). It's very crowded there, that was the best view presenting the whole tram. The wagon stands on the cobble stone on two little steel rails. All "Soapboxes" (both 2- and 4-axled) were withdrawned from service between 1985 and 1993.

Carris / Maley & Tauton #802

19 july 2010 - Lisbon, Carris Museum. This cigar-looking wagon is a design revolution of the 1930s; the Lisbonners called these trams 'Boi', that means 'Oxes' - number of the first new wagon was #801, and figure '8' looked almost like a letter 'B' (and figure "1" like letter "I"). These trams were built in Santo Amaro shop complex.

19 july 2010 - Lisbon, Carris Museum. Tram miniature which was used as an element of a study Project for articulated trams. What's interesting, the tram is on line number 16, not 15. During Lisbon International Fair in 1983, Carris used a big maquette of this tram's front part to decorate it's platform. Was this miniature present there - I don't know. The visitors were greeted by a red-white model of a german GT6 tram (or GT8).

Behind it stays four-axle St. Louis tram #10, used as a little tourist centre (in this wagon Carristur's tickets can be bought; these tickets are also valid for Carris' trams, buses and all Elevadors for 24 hours :) ).

Photo taken from the rear part of Remodelado #9 (one of the red ones) - yellow #545 was rolling behind it through Alfama and Grac,a up to the tram loop next to the Estrela Basilica.

19 july 2010 - Cascais [Cashcaeesh], Portugal, roundabout in front of the railway station. However this MAN wears BusCas liberies, it belongs to ScottURB - such buses run on a line from railway station to Guia in the western part of the city. Tickets can be bought only onboard. The place where #528 was photographed is one of the busiest in the city - sometimes it is even difficult for the bus to stop near the bus stop...

19 july 2010 - Lisbon, Santo Amaro Depot. That day little saloon tram St. Louis #2 was in museum service - it ran to the southern part of the depot, where the tram exposition is located. The motorman just stopped here, turned the trolley pole and waited for next guests to come. Above the depot we can see the immense miniature of the Golden Gate Bridge (San Francisco) - The 25. April's Bridge.

CAM Elevador da Bica #2

26 july 2010 - Lisbon. This year Elevador da Bica received new colours - I think it looks quite nice in these plastic silver plates. Wagon number 2 is climbing up, controlled by lady in yellow shirt. Bica's wagons are rather primitive in their construction... Wheel diameter is approximately 20, maybe 30 cm. The steering cable's diameter is almost the same as the thumb's diameter.

22 march 2010 - Lisboa (PT) - Rua Alianca Operaria. Lisboa tram line 18 runs well away from the main tourist areas, but has some very interesting and tight places. Here, a 'remodolado' heads away towards the city, passing #741 on driving school duty. The 700 series cars have only a trolley pole and are still in original condition, so are normally used only for non-passenger duties.

19 march 2010 - Porto (PT) - Tram museum Massarelos. This is a coal tram (no, I don't mean that it runs with steam!). It was built to carry coal from a coal mine to the Carris power station. The UK had a few of these - particularly Leeds - but now they are only found in museums.

16 march 2010 - Setubal (PT) – Corroios. Back at Corroios, a tram leaves for the ferry terminus across the river to Lisboa. The MdS runs a frequent service runs and seems popular with the locals, although the separate ticketing system (and two further separate tickets are needed on the ferry boats and on the suburban trains) makes changing between modes a nuisance – especially as all modes use electronic, stored value cards that make it impossible to know how much credit is left.
