@JP: The act in question is the `Public Service Vehicle Accessibility Regulations 2000`. This applies to all buses and coaches used on scheduled service routes, and is being introduced over a period of time. It doesn`t state that buses must be low-floor, but they must be wheelchair accessible. This means vehicles with a wheelchair lift are compliant. There are other detailed specifications that apply: position and colour of handrails, step edges and also the position of destination displays around the vehicle. Each type of vehicle has a different enforcement date. The first type of bus to have to comply are single-deck vehicles: all of which must meet these standards by 1st January 2016. Those weighing less than 7.5 tonnes must comply 1 year earlier - 1st January 2015. Double-deck vehicles must all comply by 1st January 2017, and all coaches must comply by 1st January 2020. The regulations did demand that all buses built after 1st October 2000 (and route coaches built after 2004) are built to these standards. This means a lot of vehicles built before 2000 will be useless, or will need a lot of modernisation in order to comply. Vehicles used on private hires and school/private contracts do not need to comply at all. Vehicles that do not comply can be used for a limited number of days in a year.

By the way, have you got any Leyland bus pictures and are you going to add them?Although I have worked in and around buses since I was 12 years old, I have only just started to take transport photography seriously. So, as yet I do not have any Leyland pictures to add: there are very few left in service now, so I do not see them often. I will upload any that I do find though

There are a couple of industry magazines in the UK. My preference is for RouteOne, which is published weekly. It is of more interest to an operator than enthusiasts, which I prefer. There are test-drives, news articles, legislation changes, court cases and so on. You can read the current edition for free online at: http://www.route-one.net
