27 september 2009 - Budapest (HU) – Szentendre. Hidden away behind the HEV suburban railway depot is an amazing sight – a huge collection of over sixty old trams and electric railway vehicles, dating back many years. They are nearly all in very bad condition, though. The HEV seem never to have scrapped anything! This is a very early wooden city tram – I think it’s a Type D of 1897 with ‘Dresden’ axles – a total wreck, but useful for spare parts and patterns, I expect.

Yikes! Patterns I understand, but is there anything that you could call 'spare parts' in THAT?

When you see what they do at Crich, you'll appreciate what can be done with only a rotten shell like this. The chassis looks complete and probably the motors are still in place - just needs a replica body! But also needs lots of HUF, of course.......There's a similar car in the Szentendre museum opposite (which is probably why they hung onto this one in the first place, in case they need some bits).
