10 may 2013 - Portland, Hawthorne Bridge. This is the oldest vertical-lift bridge in operation in the United States, opened in 1910. It is the third bridge in this location after two previous ones were burned down. Streetcars used this bridge until 1956. In the background is Mount Saint Helens, an active volcano. Its elevation was reduced from 9677ft to 8365ft in 1980 due to an eruption caused by a 5.1 Richter scale earthquake.
