Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 #19072

21 july 2014 - East Street, Nettleham. Stagecoach have a mixture of Scania/Enviro400 and all-Alexander Dennis Enviro400s branded for InterConnect work in Lincolnshire. Here is an example of the latter, which started life in Manchester.

MAN 18.220 HOCL-NL / Alexander ALX300 #22272

21 july 2014 - Teal Park Road, Lincoln. Seen here passing the recently built waste incinerator near North Hykeham as it works a variation of the intense 44/66 loop of local services.

Volvo B7RLE / Wright Eclipse Urban #69206

17 june 2014 - Hayle Terrace, Hayle. Seen here from across Copperhouse Pool with St Elwyns Church in the background. This bus remains just 1 of 4 in the entire fleet to have the new corporate livery due to being transferred from another part of the UK.

AEC Routemaster RML #RML2290

14 june 2014 - Round Garden, Crantock. For my 200th photo on Phototrans, there was no alternative to a big red Routemaster. Now retired from almost 50 years of hard work in the capital, this British legend has come to rural Cornwall for an easier life. Now predominantly used for private hires, and very popular for transporting guests to and from wedding venues as it was when this photo was taken.

Scania N270UD / Optare OmniDekka #945

19 may 2014 - Lower Parliament Street, Nottingham. Nottingham City Transport heavily brand many of their buses and dedicate them to specific routes or corridors, but a number are also painted in a generic silver livery so they may deputise on any service. One such example is this vehicle.

Volvo B10M / Plaxton Panther #K33 OTS

1 june 2014 - OTS Depot, Little Lamanva, near Falmouth. This steadily expanding business recently won educational contracts in the Falmouth area and has increased the number of full-size coaches from 1 to 4, and will soon rise again to 5. Here the 3 additions sit alongside the existing member of the fleet, ready for the start of the new contracts the following day.

Volvo Olympian / Alexander RH #34192

8 june 2014 - A39 Penryn By-pass, Penryn. Seen here running from Falmouth depot to Camborne depot, presumably for routine maintenance, which is the only reason I can think of why one of these would be using this road on a Sunday!

Scania CN270UB 4x2 EB #516

19 may 2014 - Lower Parliament Street, Nottingham. Nottingham City Transport is now one of just a small handful of municipal operators left in the UK, and like most municipals their operating territory is largely confined within the city boundaries. However, this service 100 (branded as "Pathfinder") does extend beyond the city and in to the countryside beyond.

Optare Solo M950 #999

19 may 2014 - Middle Hill, Nottingham. A free shuttle service operates within the city centre, using a fleet of 100% electric buses. One such example is seen here, and in the background one of the trams operating in the city can be seen, so I suppose you could say there are two electric vehicles in this shot!

Scania L94UB / Wright Solar #678

19 may 2014 - Greyfriar Gate, Nottingham. TrentBarton have a myriad of liveries and colour schemes. Each route, group of routes or areas have their own brand, but of course some vehicles are kept in a generic livery so they may operate on any route without looking out of place. Such an example is this vehicle, carrying a message that using buses is cheaper than using a car.

Mercedes-Benz O530 II #3015

19 may 2014 - Friar Lane, Nottingham.

Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 #19124

17 may 2014 - Broadgate, Lincoln. With much better weather than my last visit, I couldn`t resist recreating a photo with the massive and beautiful cathedral in the background. However, this time I went one step further and waited for this particular vehicle, which Stagecoach have painted in this vivid livery. The livery is particularly apt here as it is a stylised version of the county flag of Lincolnshire.

Mercedes-Benz 413 CDI / Ferqui Soroco #239 TRL

16 may 2014 - Long Rock Car Park, nr. Penzance. The beautiful Mounts Bay wakes up to the early sunrise at 0630. The beauty of this area is best observed at this time of day: just a few hours later the area will be full of tourists and locals alike, enjoying the hugely popular South West Coast Path.

Optare Solo M990 #KX04 HPZ

1 june 2014 - OTS Depot, Lamanva, nr. Falmouth. The white buses in this fleet usually operate regular contract work, which varies greatly in terms of the size of vehicle required, as demonstrated by the line-up here.

Mercedes-Benz 413 CDI / Ferqui Soroco #239 TRL

1 june 2014 - OTS Depot, Lamanva, nr. Falmouth. The two silver vehicles in this small fleet are used for the most prestigious private hires and contract work. Together, they look very professional and set a very good image of the company.

Mercedes-Benz 814 D / Plaxton Cheetah #624 LAF

21 april 2014 - B3273 nr. Mevagissey. Seen resting whilst on a private hire is this early example of its type.

Mercedes-Benz 413 CDI / Ferqui Soroco #239TRL

24 april 2014 - Marine Drive, Looe. Seen ready to depart on a day tour, basking in the early morning sun. Being out before the tourists is a massive bonus of this job!

Volvo B7L / Wright Eclipse Metro #60730

9 april 2014 - Bawtry Road, Rotherham. One of the first of the Wright Eclipse type bodies, bought almost exclusively by FirstGroup when first launched is seen here operating a return journey to the city centre after the relatively short trip to nearby Maltby.

Optare Solo M990 #KX04 HPZ

10 april 2014 - A30, Bodmin Moor. Cornwall is home to some inhospitable landscapes, including dramatic coastlines and miles upon miles of open moorland, such as the landscape seen here, where this vehicle takes a brief rest on a long journey south from Rotherham.

Optare Solo M990 #KX04 HPZ

10 april 2014 - Rother Way, Rotherham. Ready to depart to its new hirer, this Optare Solo stand proud in front of brand new examples of the type. Some 10 years separate these vehicles, but the condition of KX04HPZ belies its years.

Optare Solo

10 april 2014 - Rother Way, Rotherham. A line-up of identical vehicles being held in stock ready to go to their new owners who lease them from this company. However, it is unusual for this many vehicles to go to just one customer but these are all destined for service in Malta, continuing many years tradition of UK produced vehicles running on the island.

Mercedes-Benz 413 CDI / Ferqui Soroco #239TRL

16 april 2014 - Departures Road, North Terminal, Gatwick Airport. Following a long and early morning journey from Cornwall, a group of Polish drama students were safely dropped to the airport before both passengers and crew could start the long homeward journey! I think the students completed their 2000 mile journey before the bus completed its 300 mile journey!

Optare Solo

10 april 2014 - Rother Way, Rotherham. Seen here in the yard of vehicle leasing specialist, DawsonRentals is one of 23 brand new and unregistered "stock" vehicles ready to depart for their new home in Malta. Before they depart on their long overland journey, air conditioning will be fitted.

Optare Solo M990 #KX04 HPZ

10 april 2014 - Denby Way, Rotherham. A very rare opportunity to photograph a vehicle outside the building where it was built some 10 years earlier just had to be taken. The building in the background is the former Optare factory, which is now used for other purposes although Optare do still rent a small part of it for warranty work to their products.

Mercedes-Benz 814 D / Plaxton Cheetah #624 LAF

21 april 2014 - B3273, nr. Mevagissey. This is an early example of the second generation of Plaxton Cheetah body and wears Mercedes-Benz vinyls proudly alongside the standard fleet livery. It is seen here resting while awaiting the return of its hirers for the day.

Transbus Dart SLF / Transbus Mini Pointer #101

19 march 2014 - High Street, Royal Wootton Bassett. This was a rare sighting in this town as the 61 service only runs on Wednesdays.

Scania N230UD / Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 #15737

19 march 2014 - Hight Street, Royal Wootton Bassett.

Optare Solo M850 #YV03 UTY

19 march 2014 - High Street, Malmesbury. Signs of spring in the picturesque park near the River Avon brighten the day and the former Silk Mills.

Optare Solo M850 #T30 ARJ

19 march 2014 - Cross Hayes, Malmesbury. Two truly British products here: the Optare Solo and the iconic K6 telephone box as designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, the famous architect who also penned other iconic British structures such as the Battersea Power Station and Liverpool Cathedral. However, behind the Optare is an example of a very rare vehicle from overseas... ;)

Dennis Dart SLF / Plaxton Pointer #R503 SJM

19 march 2014 - Cross Hayes, Malmesbury. Seen here at the main terminus in this historical British town is this immaculate early example of the low-floor Dennis Dart. The Andybus fleet was always very well cared for, and the driver of the Optare behind can be seen sprucing his vehicle to demonstrate the point.

Dennis Dart SLF / Plaxton Pointer #R503 SJM

19 march 2014 - The Hill, Little Somerford. Andybus have recently lost all their service bus routes around Malmesbury in a recent county council tendering process. Before the routes transferred to the new operator I headed out in to the Gloucestershire countryside to document their services, always performed with well-kept vehicles. An example is this early low-floor Dart descending the hill in to this small village.

Scania N230UD / Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 #15535

3 april 2014 - Church Green, Witney. An iconic building in this small market town is the Butter Cross, seen here late at night as the bus take a diversion on its way back to the depot at the end of duty.

Scania N230UD / Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 #15535

3 april 2014 - Church Green, Witney. I took a slightly longer way back to the depot at the end of my day to get this photo. Well worth it I thought!

Scania N230UD / Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 #15731

19 march 2014 - Timber Street, Chippenham. The buses allocated to this route are adorned with large vinyl wraps on the offside promoting local places and are sponsored by local businesses, making for very colourful buses indeed!

Dennis Dart SLF / Plaxton Pointer 2 #M55 ADR

19 march 2014 - The Hill, Little Somerford. Although like many other Plaxton bodied Dennis Darts, this particular example is noteworthy in that it was one of only a very small number of `R` registered examples that was not new to FirstGroup, who had exclusive rights to this design for a period of time. This example was unique in being new for the HoverBus shuttle service in Portsmouth, but is seen here deep in the Wiltshire countryside on a rural service for its current owners. However, since the photo was taken things have changed again and the contract to operate this service has moved to another operator.

Volvo B10M / Plaxton Excalibur #R423 LCG

19 march 2014 - High Street, Royal Wootten Bassett. Evidence of spring surrounds this vehicle in one of the UKs most historical market towns.

Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 II 10,2m #44001

16 march 2014 - Ferry Road, Benfleet. Since First pulled out of London, especially Dagenham from which vehicles became surplus, displaced buses have been spread across the country following refurbishment and conversion to single door. One such example is seen here, not too far from its original London home.

Volvo B10MA / Plaxton Premiere Interurban #402

16 march 2014 - Ferry Road, Benfleet. Spring has sprung here in the UK and there`s even sunshine and dandelions to prove it, providing some brightness to the pleasant livery of this operator.

Volvo B10MA / Plaxton Premiere Interurban #401

16 march 2014 - Cherrydown East, Basildon. Loading near Basildon Station is one of two articulated coaches in use on a long-term rail replacement service to the nearby town of Benfleet. The journey takes just 20 minutes, but passenger loadings are heavy.

Volvo B10MA / Plaxton Premiere Interurban #402

16 march 2014 - Cherrydown East, Basildon. Articulated buses in the UK are rare, and there has always been problems associated with their operation here due to large amounts of narrow roads and that no-one has ever got used to them. Articulated coaches are rarer still, with just a handful of examples around, so I was pleased to catch up with the 2 examples working a long-term rail replacement contract in Essex.

AEC Routemaster RML #RML2290

10 march 2014 - OTS Depot, Lamanva. An early taste of summer sees the bright red paint of this British legend shine like new, though now far from the urban sprawl of London and living in much more rural parts. A much newer member of the fleet provides company.

Scania N230UD / Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 #15611

23 february 2014 - Stagecoach Depot, Corn Street, Witney. Although similar to another photo I have posted the light here I really liked as it allowed the headlamps to be fully lit without creating too much glare. I wanted to take advantage of having full access to the depot before my employment ceased!

Scania N230UD / Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 #15618

23 february 2014 - Stagecoach Depot, Corn Street, Witney. Seen at dusk, an identical pair of buses dedicated to the busy S1/S2 routes rest during a Sunday.

Jonckheere JHV 126-380 #BJ13 TXU

9 march 2014 - Gyllyngvase Coach Park, Falmouth. This town is popular with tourists and the seafront area is home to a number of large hotels, many of which do not offer coach parking due to lack of space. Therefore coaches tend to rest overnight in the coach park such as this example, sat beside a much older local school bus. Quite a big difference between these two!

Mercedes-Benz 413 CDI / Kusters MidCity #873 VRL

6 march 2014 - Grovehill Crescent, Falmouth. In order to financially support this short and frequent service around the town centre, the regular bus is heavily adorned with advertisements for local tourist attractions, breweries and other businesses.

Mercedes-Benz 413 CDI / Kusters MidCity #873 VRL

6 march 2014 - Quarry Hill, Falmouth. This vehicle is dedicated to operating a 20 minute frequency shuttle service around the town centre. The route has now been extended once every 2 hours to serve the outer parts of town left without a service following the sudden withdrawal of the Cornwall Ferries (t/a FalRiver Buses) 329 and it is seen here arriving at the start point for one of the extended journeys.

Mercedes-Benz 814 D / Plaxton Beaver 2 #813 HAF

7 march 2014 - Trescobeas Rd., Falmouth. A bright day signals spring on the way! This bus is permanently allocated to a private contract operating a 30 minute frequency between Woodlane Campus and Falmouth Business Park for Falmouth University graphics students.

Dennis Dart / Plaxton Pointer 9.8 #46235

7 march 2014 - Tesco Store, Helston. This bus is a shocking survivor of recent cuts to the bus network in Cornwall. With frequencies on many rural services slashed and just a handful of step-entrance vehicles still in service, I was taken aback by it`s presence.

Volvo Olympian / Alexander RH #31461

27 february 2014 - Treliever Road, Mabe Burnthouse, Penryn. One of a number of Olympians due for withdrawal this year is this former Scottish example. It`s original purchaser chose an unusual specification for this bus: the great Volvo TD102KF engine, but coupled to a 3sp. auto gearbox as opposed to the usual ZF.

Mercedes-Benz 814 D / Plaxton Beaver 2 #570

10 february 2014 - Watergate Road, Watergate Bay, Newquay. In what I expect to be its`s final year of stage-carriage service in the UK is this Plaxton Beaver "Plus": fitted with coach style seats and a small drop-well boot. Potentially one of many to be exported to Poland over the course of the next year.

Wright StreetLite #47418

3 february 2014 - Queen St., Portsmouth.

Enterprise Plasma / Plaxton Primo #MX55 WDA

27 february 2014 - Tregothnan Road, Malpas Rd Est., Truro. Seen in its penultimate day in service is this vehicle before the route is withdrawn due to not being financially viable.

Mercedes-Benz 814 D / Plaxton Beaver 2 #570

27 february 2014 - Budnic Hill, Perranporth. Seen passing the entrance of the quiet Perran Sands Holiday Park is this Vario, one of many in the Western Greyhound fleet. With the DDA compliance deadline for this type of bus now only 9 months away, front line service is coming to a close for this type. One Western Greyhound Vario has recently been exported to Poland, apparently with many more to follow. This one too, perhaps?

Optare Solo M920 #WK03 BTE

27 february 2014 - Richmond Hill, Truro. Hopleys are a small, independent operator with just a handful of stage carriage services and also a number of educational contracts. They keep their fleet smart and tidy, as shown by this Optare Solo: easily one of the best condition I have seen over 10 years old!

Volvo B7RLE / Wright Eclipse Urban #69223

27 february 2014 - Richmond Hill, Truro. The city centre here is closed for a long period of time to allow a new sewer main to be installed. Thus, almost all bus routes serving the city (especially those approaching from the North and West and others crossing the city) are on diversion. This vehicle is seen rejoining normal route having just used the diversion route to leave the city centre.

Volvo B7RLE / Wright Eclipse Urban #69206

27 february 2014 - Chacewater Hill, Chacewater, nr. Truro. The new FirstGroup livery is spreading rapidly across the UK, although the fleet in Cornwall has not yet painted any buses in to the scheme. In fact, if the non-corportate scheme being trialled in Taunton is seen as successful, it is likely the Cornish fleet will receive its own unique brand. However, there are 4 vehicles here in the new scheme as they were painted by former keepers in Manchester where the majority of vehicles are in the new livery.

Mercedes-Benz 814 D / Plaxton Beaver 2 #500

27 february 2014 - Budnic Hill, Perranporth. Thought I`d try something a little different using the sign at the entrance to this holiday complex built on the sand dunes on the north coast of Cornwall. During the summer season buses will enter the resort, but for now they can continue easily.

Volvo B7RLE / Wright Eclipse Urban #69220

27 february 2014 - Station Road, Truro. Seen here passing the station building is this former Manchester vehicle which has been earning it`s keep much further south for over 5 years now.

Peugeot Boxer #HG59 HJZ

27 february 2014 - Truro Coach Park, Morlaix Avenue, Truro. For those who are unaware, Cornwall is a deeply rural area and some communities are dependant on minibus services operated as charities by volunteers. Both buses seen here are community minibuses registered as charities seen on scheduled shopping trips to Truro: the only city in Cornwall. On the left is the Rame Peninsular Community Bus, which has had the longest journey from near the county border with Devon. The Mercedes Sprinter is that of the Gorran Community Bus which has travelled less distance to visit the area, but both areas share one thing in common: they are sparsely populated and are largely unable to support `normal` buses.

Enterprise Plasma / Plaxton Primo #MX55 WDA

27 february 2014 - Malpas Road, Truro. Unfortunately, this operator who gallantly stepped in to cover routes dropped by larger operators has decided to discontinue all of their services, with the exception of this route. This is because the route can be used to shuttle ferry passengers to and from the city centre at low tide.
